TELL US MORE ABOUT YOUR SWEET LITTLE FOOD BUDS, DRAWN FOR THE X DOPPLE PRINT COLLECTION

These pieces were inspired by lots of different things! Nature, summer, tasty treats. I mostly just wanted to make pieces that were fun and made me feel good. I always aim to try and make myself laugh while I’m working on something – that means I’m on the right track!

DESCRIBE YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS

It depends on the piece! Sometimes I start with a clear idea and sometimes I start a bit fuzzier. Often I’ll just open a blank page and start sketching a bit and see what ideas come from that. Usually, I’ll start with one character and asses what larger story could be told with this character as the jumping-off point. Then I’ll sketch the whole piece out in Procreate and go back over it with my final linework and add color at the end.

WHAT GETS YOU FEELING INSPIRED?

I’m often inspired by things I observe in the world or in my home – breakfast at a diner, someone reading in the park, dishes in the sink. I think the relationship between inanimate objects and people is fun to explore – giving life to a bowl and assigning a personality to them, wondering what their relationship is to the cup next to them, etc. I love the idea that food and objects have rich inner lives that we don’t know about and I try to capture that idea.
